Hosting with transLucid

We recommend transLucid as a light-weight online publishing system that can function as an easy hosting environment. With transLucid you can publish and maintain any website at any location without any special knowledge.

At Wide Open Windows a CMS system is not really needed, since we have the knowledge and the software to maintain this website. Still transLucid is being used for the links section. Why? Basically because of a number of reasons that make this web application unique:

With transLucid a menu / page system can be build that is non-hierarchical. This means that a page can have more then one parent page. At the same time a page can also have lateral relations with pages that lie outside the normal 'parent/ child' system.
Without any knowledge of server languages it is quite easy to create custom layouts, using the Smarty addon. You can also use all kinds of effects from the Yahoo AJAX library.
Also without any knowledge of server languages, transLucid pages are completely searchable (when a MySQL database has been used).
The links section is the place that changes the most and so it is quite nice that I indeed can update these pages wherever I am!

These for me are more then enough reasons to use transLucid!

There are two versions of transLucid:

• A free open source version can be downloaded from here. You need a web server with support for PHP (and MySQL for best results). Setting up this version of transLucid can be arduous for non-experienced users.

• An online hosting solution at www.translucidonline.com. TransLucidonline is a simple website publishing system with which anyone can create and maintain web content, in multiple languages and based on a growing list of ready-made, professional layouts. Setting up a transLucidOnline site is a breeze!
